SPC Aaron Carlson
While refueling operations were being conducted
outside Camp Eggers, Kabul, Afghanistan on
January 17, 2009, an armored Army Suburban van
was struck by a suicide vehicle-borne IED
(improvised explosive device - SVBIED).
SPC Aaron Carlson, 20, of Annawan, Illinois was
performing guard mount duty and was seriously
injured when the bomb detonated.

Officer Elliot Miller
Petty Office Elliot Miller served in the USMC
for four years. AFter being honorably
discharged, he enrolled at Southern IL
University. After the tragic events of
September 11, 2001, Elliot reenlisted in to
active duty, this time with the U.S. Navy.
He was hit by a roadside bomb. His
injuries left him close to death and in a coma
for 4 weeks.
